Matrix is mostly used for risk assessment workshop voting. The software allows you to assess a list of items against up to 9 criteria.
Generally users add a list of risks and then set up the ability for participants to vote on each risk against impact and likelihood. Each risk is then given a score (often impact x likelihood) and the risks are plotted on a heatmap (xy plot).
Some users run assessments for control effectiveness and velocity too.
