How do I create a quiz with winners?

Quizzes can be individual by keypad number (which can be assigned to a name) or Team (group of individual keypads). Winners can be shown by question, round or at the end of the whole quiz.

The video includes setting correct answers (at the start), how to set up the slide to show the winner(s) at 12 minutes 20 and how to set up teams at 20 minutes 20.

Creating quiz questions

To make a question into a quiz question you must set a correct answer. Load the editor from CLiKAPAD > Slide Editor and select the Quiz Settings tab.

Select your correct answer by clicking the box/cell to the left of your voting options. This will change the cell from White to Green.

Clicking again on the same cell will change it to Red (incorrect answer) and the score will change to -1.

Clicking a third time will change it from Red (incorrect answer) back to white (neither correct or incorrect).

By default all scores are either 1 or -1, you can edit the score to whatever value you choose to give more points for a difficult question. To change the score click on the cell and type in a new value.

Individual Quiz Results

Once you have created quiz questions, you may wish to add a slide to show the winner(s).

Select CLiKAPAD > New Slide Wizard > Individual Quiz Results Display > Go The main Quiz Wizard window will now load

The quiz slide will collate data from voting questions in 1 of 3 ways

      • Use all questions up to this point – All quiz questions before the position of this results slide are used to calculate the scores.

      • Use ONLY the last quiz question before this point – The results from only the last question before this quiz slide is used to calculate the scores, this can be used to create a fastest finger first results slide after each quiz question.
    • Custom (select from below) – You can choose which questions are to be used from the list of Votes available, select the questions you wish to use by double clicking on them or click the arrow button, to move them to the Votes in the quiz section.

Only questions that have a correct answer marked in their vote settings will be included in the Votes available list. If there is nothing shown in the Votes available list you must make sure you have set the correct answer setting in your voting slides first.

Select the Display tab

The default settings will show the top 3 keypads, you can alter this by changing the ‘Display keypads placed…’ settings. To show just the winning keypad update this to show keypads placed 1 to 1.

      • Show Scores – the keypad number/name will be displayed along with the keypad’s score in the quiz. The score can be either shown as a total or a percentage.
    • Show Weighted Scores – correct answer weightings are taken into account, if de-selected each correct answer will be worth 1 point no matter the settings for the correct answer in the questions.

A quiz slide will be created using the standard ppvote display template, alternatively, you can create the results slide using the current presentation’s slide layout

The results slide contains placeholders for the keypad numbers of the winners (and their scores if you ticked Show scores).

You can alter the results to your liking by resizing the text boxes, changing the fonts, colours, etc., directly on the slide using the standard PowerPoint formatting functions/menus.

Do not edit the ^ marks or the text between ^ as ppvote uses these as the placeholder for the results. You can edit any other text on the slide, e.g. the title, or text before / after the score and you can add additional text boxes or pictures to the slide.

The results are automatically loaded and displayed on the slide when you reach this slide during the live presentation. The placeholder text is replaced with the keypad number/name of the winners and their scores and then animated to reveal the results on the screen. To test your quiz results slide simply start the slide show.

Team Quiz Results

This type of slide will show which groups of keypads have recorded the greatest number of correct responses for a quiz. The results slide can be placed anywhere, you can also have multiple slides to show the results of rounds or sections.

▪ Select CLiKAPAD > New Slide Wizard.

▪ Select Team Quiz Results Display > Go

The setup is the same as for an Individual Quiz results slide with one extra step to setup the teams.

First, you must choose which questions are to be part of this quiz. The quiz slide will collate data from voting questions in one of three ways

▪ Use all questions up to this point – All quiz questions before the position of this results slide are used to calculate the scores

▪ Use ONLY the last quiz question before this point – The results from the only the last question before this quiz slide is used to calculate the scores, this can be used to create a fastest finger first results slide after each quiz question

▪ Custom (select from below) – You can choose which questions are to be used from the list of Votes available, select the questions you wish to use and double click on them or click the arrow button, to move them to the Votes in the quiz section.

Only questions that have a correct answer marked in their vote settings will be included in the Votes available list. If there is nothing shown in the Votes available list you must make sure you have set the correct answer setting in your voting slides first.

Select the Setup teams tab

You can allocate teams in one of two ways;

▪ Manually – by clicking the relevant add/remove buttons to add teams and team members.

▪ From a question – if you click the drop-down then you can use a question in the presentation to dynamically allocate people to teams. The list of teams will be automatically loaded in from the question. Keypads are dynamically allocated to the teams as the question is answered live.

If you assign teams from a voting slide you can only have a maximum of 11 teams, by allocating keypads manually to each team you can have up to 99 teams.

When you have set up your teams select the Display tab.

The Display Settings will default to showing the results for all the available teams, you can override this by updating numbers in the ‘Display teams placed…’ section.

▪ Show Scores – displays the team names in order, along with their score in the quiz.

▪ Show Weighted Scores – correct answer weightings are taken into account, if de-selected each correct answer will be worth 1 point no matter the settings for the correct answer in the questions.

Display scores as…:

▪ Percentage – displays the score as a percentage of the total maximum possible score for a team. This normalises the scoring to make it fair if teams have differing numbers of members.

▪ Average – displays the percentage as a fraction (i.e. 50% = 0.50).

▪ Total – the total raw score for the team (teams with more members are likely to win if this is selected).

As with Individual Quiz results slides, you can choose for the slide to be created using the ppvote template or using the current presentation’s slide layout

▪ Reverse order reveal of winners – creates multiple results slide, in reverse order. In the above example this would create 4 results slide showing the 4th placed, 3rd placed, 2nd placed and on the final slide the winning team.

Once you have made your changes, select Save & Go. Here is an example of a slide ready for displaying results:

The results slide contains placeholders for the keypad numbers of the winners (and their scores if you ticked Show scores).

You can alter the Results Slide to your liking by resizing the text boxes, changing the fonts, colours, etc., directly on the slide using the standard PowerPoint formatting functions/menus.

Team quizzes tend to have lower scores than individual quizzes. For a team to achieve 100%, each member of the team must answer each question correctly.
